“We grow seeds and we grow leaders” “The mission of Dream of Wild Health is to restore health and well-being in the Native community by recovering knowledge of and access to healthy Indigenous foods, medicines and lifeways.” Located in Hugo, MN, Dream of Wild Health is a 10 acre farm that serves natives in the greater twin cities area. Born out of a nonprofit that provided transitional housing to natives in the area, DWH received a generous and massive donation of heirloom seeds from Cora Baker, a Potawatomi Seed Keeper. With these seeds, DWH seeks to preserve the relationships Indigenous people have with the plants and land, particularly these heirlooms and other traditional plants and medicines. The farm offers indigenous food shares each season, and they’ve recently begun a transition to a sliding-scale model for this foodshare. This CSA-style prioritizes native families, but is available to all who are interested. They also offer wholesale orders, which allow economic flourishing of local, farm-to-table businesses, and sell produce at local farmers markets. In addition to Cora Baker’s seed collection, DWH has also received seed donations from native seed keepers all over the continent. They are actively invested in seed rematriation and the opportunities for intergenerational healing that emerge from this practice; this is echoed in their youth program.
